SoClean Cleaner Reviews

The SoClean 2 is a cleaner and sanitizer machine that automatically cleans and dries parts of the sleep apnea equipment by using activated oxygen.

If you use a machine for sleep apnea, you’re already taking a step on improving your health. But part of having a machine involves routine cleaning, otherwise, you may be harming your health, rather than improving it.

Sleep apnea equipment generally requires daily cleaning of the water chamber and mask, and at least weekly cleaning of the tubing, depending on the manufacturer. Cleaning usually consists of warm water with a mild soap, and always letting the parts hang to air-dry thoroughly to prevent bacteria or fungi from forming.

The amount of time it takes to clean and completely dry can be time consuming and because of this, many people with machines are not compliant with daily care.

Fortunately, there are now cleaners on the market that can clean and sanitize your machine for you, and in a lot less time.

SoClean 2 Cleaner and Sanitizer

The SoClean 2 is a cleaner and sanitizer that uses activated oxygen to sanitize, just like in a hospital setting. When this device generates activated oxygen, it pumps it through your equipment. Activated oxygen is known to kill germs and bacteria it comes into contact with.

SoClean 2 Cleaner and Sanitizer

What sets the SoClean 2 apart from other cleaners is the ease of use. To use, you simply place your equipment inside the SoClean device, close the lid, and it will start cleaning and sanitizing automatically.

The SoClean 2 Cleaner and Sanitizer easily connects to most devices, and if it is not compatible, they offer an adapter you can add onto your purchase, with no extra charge. Their website offers a list of common machines and whether it will need an adapter or not.

SoClean Cleaner Factors:

  • Cleaning cycle time of 2 hours
  • The manufacturer offers a 30-day risk-free trial and free shipping
  • Financing is available
  • A cartridge filter kit needs to be replaced every 6 months at a cost of about $30, less if you subscribe to their email.

SoClean Coupons and Discounts

Merchants sometimes offer coupons and discounts. If there are any live coupons or deals, we will try to list them here. With the increasing popularity of CPAP and increasing awareness of sleep apnea, equipment manufacturers regularly try new marketing tactics in order to gain market share. Machine discounts and coupons are one of the ways that they try to compete.

SoClean 2 Cleaner Reviews

One thing many reviewers of the SoClean 2 agreed on was the ease of use. It’s very easy to set up, as well as easy to use on a daily basis. Some reviewers also mentioned that it’s great for some elderly people that don’t understand technology since all you have to do is open and close the lid; it does the work on its own.

SoClean 2 CPAP Cleaner

Many SoClean users admitted they weren’t in the habit of cleaning their machines as much as they should, and the SoClean was “worth the money” and is now helping them be compliant with daily cleanings.

One SoClean purchaser mentioned that he’s always struggled with cleaning and drying the hose, and sometime’s he would wake up feeling like he was “drowning in water.” He stated that this machine has solved all of his problems and now he sleeps like a baby.

Other benefits mentioned from using the SoClean 2 cleaner are fewer respiratory infections, improved cough, and a fresher smelling machine and mask. There are other techniques that people can use to clean the machine.

  1. I have a few questions.

I have read various reviews in the past.

Please explain the smell to me. I am very sensitive to smell and get headaches.

Also a few months ago I read a review that said some things turn brown.

Are there different so clean machines?

    1. Good Day Cathryn,

Some users can smell Activated Oxygen (ozone) at extremely low levels and for them it is not uncommon to smell Activated Oxygen for a short period of time during and after running their SoClean 2. If it’s a very strong odor or you have noticed it getting stronger over time, please contact customer care at 866-501-3705 for further assistance.
Some masks naturally change color as they age, even without the use of the SoClean 2. While Activated Oxygen (ozone) is compatible with the common types of materials used in masks, in some cases, the SoClean 2 may accelerate this process, especially if your mask is wet or if any oils or lotions from your face are on the mask when you run your SoClean 2. Please be sure to use SoClean wipes daily on your mask to remove any natural oils and ensure the mask is dry before operating your SoClean 2.

      Thank you,
      Christine

  2. I have been using my SoClean for over 5 years and couldn’t be happier!! I use it every day without fail and have never had any issues. Greatest cleaner and time saver. Would never be without it. Wonderful product. Not sure about the customer service because I have never had to use it. I am sure it’s as good as the product is.

  3. I use foam sleeves on my CPAP straps to prevent ridges in my cheeks. What occurs in the SoClean machine that should keep me from continuing to do this?

    1. Good Day Myrna,

Activated Oxygen (ozone) is compatible with many of the common materials found in masks such as silicone, acrylic and polycarbonate. Activated Oxygen is not compatible with natural rubbers, nylon, memory foam, and other materials not commonly found in masks. If you have questions regarding your mask materials, please contact your DME.

      Thank you,
      Christine

  4. I am disappointed that the users manual describes the order filter kit message and why it occurs but there is nothing about how to reset it. I had to google it to find out about pressing the manual and hourglass buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds.

    1. Good Day Kathryn,

Activated Oxygen (ozone) is compatible with many of the common materials found in masks such as silicone, magnetic clips, acrylic and polycarbonate. Activated Oxygen is not compatible with natural rubbers, nylon, memory foam, and other materials not commonly found in masks. If you have questions regarding your mask materials, please contact your DME.

  5. I use the Resmed AirSense 10 CPap and I use the So Clean with the top hose adapter on the water chamber for cleaning. I have been getting residual water in the nasal cup each night, enough to run down my face when removed. This occurs several times at night as I have to get up during the night and remove the mask. I have to dry the nasal cup each time before putting it back on.

I have been told by the Technician for the company that supplied the CPap, that I am to remove the lid with the hose attached and reattach the regular lid to the water chamber after cleaning before using my CPap. To leave this adapter lid on is what is said to be causing the water to leak into my nasal cup each use.

Is this not to purpose of the check valve in the line to prevent such happening so it can remain hooked up and you don't have to keep switching lids back and forth?

    1. Good Day Linda,

The check valve is a one way valve that helps prevent water from getting into the SC2. It protects our electronics. It does not prevent "rainout" from a PAP machine.

Common causes of "rainout" is temperature changes. So for example, having your PAP reservoir heater set high and than blowing a cold fan on it. A heated hose sitting near a cold window with extreme temperature drops. Gravity can also be a factor. The common fixes for rain out are getting a heated hose and/or having your water reservoir heater settings changed. We suggest you speak with your medical supplier about fixes for "rainout".

      Thank you,
      Christine

  6. I own a SoClean device. My experience has been nearly daily use if the device to only help as it turns out my need to clean my ResMed CPAP breathing machine. There remains a need to hand wash everything involved. It is not unusual that a corporation is more interested In marketing expansion, selling, their product than in revealing the true downsides involved. I refer to their claim that the troublesome odor following SoClean cleaning anyCPAP machine only occurs because of previously used soap in the cleaning process before SoClean was used by you. This is not true. The odor is present for users to breath following each usage.

My experience speaking with a SoClean rep was pleasant and informative. However there claim that there is no ozon danger involved is not clearly established. The company has messaged me explaining the sale of their product has exploded and they agree their description about the actual performance process of the device needs to be better explained an that they are working on this.

Regulators have listed the level of ozone that is harmful for humans is 1 ppm with five and above possibly causing death. One SoClean claim j
Listed 25 ppm. Was this an unintended omission of a decimal point or .25? This requires the further qualification SoClean has alerted me to.

Is ASA aware of all or even part of whatI have just reported?

    1. Good Day C,

The SoClean 2 generates enough Activated Oxygen (ozone) to maintain your sleep equipment. When operated in a 125 square foot room with 8-foot ceilings, the average ambient ozone concentration in the room over the operating cycle is < 0.05 parts per million (PPM). Please reach back with any additional questions.

      Thank you,
      Christine-SoClean

  7. Have had the SoClean for about a year.

I actually love that my mask smells like a swimming pool when it's done.

It has a clean fresh smell after the cleaning cycle. Since using it for one year I can honestly say that I have had less respiratory infections, colds and lingering coughs when I do get ill.

Great machine but it's a bit loud. I set the cleaning cycle to go off when I'm at work so it's a non-issue.

  8. Are there any independent studies on the effectiveness of SoClean? How can I be sure this isn't a gimmick?

Also, would this damage my CPAP? Some reviews on Amazon have claimed that regular use of SoClean have broken down rubber seals in their CPAPs. Has anyone else experienced this?

    1. Good Day Matthew,

The SoClean 2 is a fast, easy way to clean your sleep equipment. Im unfamiliar with any third party studies around effectiveness. The SoClean 2 uses Activated Oxygen (ozone) in order to maintain your sleep equipment daily with no disassembly and no water. I am unaware of claims focused on the break down of the CPAPs rubber seals. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact customer care at 866-501-3705.

      Thank you
      Christine

    1. Good Day Linda,

Eliminating algae is a challenge for most maintenance processes and is usually a sign of the water quality used. To reduce the growth of algae, please use distilled water in your sleep equipment. Also, please follow your manufacturer's recommended instructions for periodic washing to remove any algae build up in the humidification reservoir. If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact customer care at 866-501-3705.

      Thank you
      Christine-SoClean

  9. I also have the memory foam mask with the ResMed my air. I read that the mask should not go into the machine. My hose is temperature controlled also.
I am a little uncomfortable in taking the mask apart each night.

    1. Good Day Judy,

You do not need to disassemble any equipment before using the SoClean 2. That's part of what makes it so convenient! Please do note that some headgear may contain natural rubber, memory foam or nylon which are not compatible with Activated Oxygen (ozone). Please check with your medical equipment provider to ensure your equipment does not contain these materials, if so you should remove it before operating your SoClean 2.

      Thank you,
      Christine

    1. Good Day Leesa,

Yes of course. Please contact customer care dept and we'd be happy to assist you in finding the correct adapter along with helping in the walk through set up process. We can be reached at 866-501-3705 Monday – Friday 8:30 am - 7:00pm Eastern.

  10. I travel a lot and take my cpap with me. After a trip to Portland and unscheduled layover in Salt Lake I developed a cough. After seeing doctors along with antibiotics and steroids, the cough still persisted. I tried to clean the cpap the best that I could but evidently I wasn't doing a good enough job. Just to test whether it was the cpap that was making me sick, I ordered the soclean 2. After a few days of use, my cough subsided. I'm a believer for sure. Now I need one that's a travel size! LOL

    1. Good Day Terry,

      Good Day Melanie,

  11. I bought the SoClean right after buying my first CPAP machine (I'm one year into CPAP therapy). The SoClean was soooo worth the $300! I use mine every day and do not use another cleaning method (I don't hand wash or anything). My tubes, etc are changed every three months at the direction of my doctor. I have not had one problem and love the smell of my mask when it comes out of the SoClean! Makes life so much easier!

    1. Good Day Melanie,

Thank you for your feedback, wonderful to hear you're enjoying your machine. We appreciate hearing from you. Our customer care team is available to answer any questions as they come up 866-501-3705.

      All my best,
      Christine

  12. My cpap converted to bipap with a simple connector added to mask tube, with a capped nub to connect my 02 tubing. When loading mask into SoClean, should that cap be closed or remain open. Also have concerns about the residual water that always remains in the tank. Does tank still need to be emptied and cleaned periodically? Thank you.

    1. Good Day Mildred,

Thank you for reaching out. We recommend the oxygen being capped / shut off / or completely removed when running your SoClean. Maintaining sleep equipment by hand is a necessary part of the process. At a minimum, equipment should be maintained/ handwashed regularly as it is recommended by the manufacturer.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact customer care at 866-501-3705.

      Thank you
      Christine

  14. Hi Christine:

I have been using the Cpap for about seven years, I wash it every morning with light baby soap and warm water , then rinse it with warm water and rinse it again with cold water; I then let it dry out all day before I re-connect it before bed time.
I do the same procedure once a week with diluted vinegar.

I also clean the water resevoir the same way, and after it dries out I pour in fresh distilled water in it every day.

Does the soclean clean the water resevoir and do I have to put fresh distilled water in it every day.

    Thank you .
    Peter C.

  16. i have used so clean for 4 wks now and have not physically cleaned my cpap machine. now i noticed an off odor and pulled out the humidifier and it has a scummy like feel on the bottom? the question is why? and if it must be hand washed why is that not in the instructions?

    1. Good Day Bill,

Maintaining sleep equipment by hand is a necessary part of the process. At a minimum, equipment should be maintained as frequently as is recommended by the manufacturer. The Neutralizing Pre-Wash is a fragrance-free cleaning solution that neutralizes pre-existing odors and removes residue. Also, please follow your manufacturer's recommended instructions for periodic washing to remove any algae build up in the humidification reservoir. 17. I have seen reviews that indicated that the internal parts of their CPAP machine were damaged by the O3. Is this a real problem that is not being talked about? Or is there no problem?

    1. Hello Anthony,

SoClean is aware of ResMed’s recent notification regarding use of ozone to clean its AirSense 10 device. SoClean has been discussing the potential impact of ozone cleaners with ResMed for some time, and we understand why this action was taken. As the market leader in sleep equipment maintenance products, patient health is our number one priority. Since 2012, SoClean has been providing patients with a product that helps keep their equipment fresh, so they can have peace of mind and remain in compliance with their individual therapy. SoClean is used by nearly two million consumers with a variety of sleep equipment. That is why we stand by our product. In fact, we are so confident in our SoClean product that if a patient uses a SoClean with a ResMed AirSense 10 that was purchased on or after February 1, 2020, in the unlikely event the AirSense 10 shows validated damage consistent with the use of ozone from our product, SoClean will cover the cost to repair the AirSense 10 during the initial two year warranty period of the AirSense 10, and for an additional year for a total of three years of coverage. Visit soclean.com/warranty beginning February 1st for details on how to register.

      Thank you,

  18. I ordered the soclean for my husband and after about 3 weeks of using it he noticed the revisor had a pink slime in it. Is there something he isn’t doing? He puts the mask in the machine every day. Please help!

Eliminating pink algae is a challenge for most maintenance processes and is usually a sign of the water quality used. To reduce the growth of algae, please use distilled water in your sleep equipment. 20. I have pulmonary fibrosis and a support group I belong to says that SoClean uses ozone to clean the cpap machine, which is not good for the lungs. Is this true? I have left a message for my pulmonologist about this but was wondering what you know about this. Thanks

    1. Hello John,

  21. Hi Joy
My wife and I both have CPAP machines and use the SoClean weekly.

We have found it best to clean the portion of the mask in direct contact with your nose & mouth be rinsed out every night before using it.
Just using the SoClean to do that on a weekly basis is not enough, since you may sneeze/cough, etc. and quickly contaminate it.

But for the hose, mask harness, and the CPAP itself it works great! If we go longer than a week we can start to notice it does not feel as clean.
    So regular use is recommended!

Also, if you clean your machine in the morning the slight odor the 1st day after using the SoClean is even less noticeable when you go to use it that night. We also change the CPAP's little air filter after using the SoClean and rinse out the water reservoir before filling it with fresh water.

    1. Good Day Donald,

The water chamber does not need to be emptied before using the SoClean 2. The ozone will flow through the water in the chamber pushed through by the air pump. We do always recommend you clean your equipment regularly as recommended by your manufacturer. If you have further questions, please contact customer care at 866-501-3705.

      Thank you,
      Christine

  22. I have AirFit P10 nasal pillow mask. Can I use with the SoClean machine. I just purchased it and now afraid I'm not going to be able to use it.

    1. Good Day Debra,

Thank you for reaching out.

      Thank you,
      Christine

  23. I have used my So Clean for nearly a year, usually 3 to 4 times per week on my Resmed Air bipap machine. I LOVE it. So easy and convenient to use. Makes me feel clean and safe.

    1. Hello Pamela,

Thank you so much for your feedback. We love to hear the great experiences our customers have with the SoClean.

      Thank you,

      1. Christine,
After using SoClean for past year I read ozone can be harmful. I cough a lot every morning and off/on during the day so stopped using SoClean. After 1 day my coughing was almost eliminated (90-95% gone). Obviously I am one who can’t use SoClean. Does SoClean have a buy back program for people like me.

      1. Christine.....well past Labor Day but looking for a deal like the one mentioned above. Any current promotions?
Susan.....how are you enjoying the cleaner?

      1. Hello Steve,

The SoClean 2 works with all popular sleep equipment. Some masks naturally change color as they age, even without the use of a SoClean 2. As well as washing your components regularly per your CPAP manufactures recommendations.

  24. Just started using SoClean and I wish I had bought one sooner. It's so easy and works great , I have a clean unit every night with no hassle of taking everything apart and washing " which I admit I didn't do as often as I should have". I feel much better knowing my mask is clean with no odors and safer to use . Excellent product !!!

    1. Good Morning Dennis,

Thank you for sharing your experience with our SoClean machine. We appreciate hearing from our customers.

      Thanks again,
      Christine

    2. I use my SoClean every other day. I put the full mask, head piece and hose in the compartment and close the top. I leave it run for the 2 hours and take them out at nighttime. I have a ResMed and the water in the tank gets sanitized also. Easy to use and effective.

    1. Good Morning Sandra,

Great questions. If you indeed have a ResMed AirCurve then yes, the SoClean will work just fine with appropriate adapter. AutoSV or ASV is a "ventilator mode" on a PAP machine used for treating Complex or Central Sleep Apnea.
Because the concern for the health and safety of our customers. Our primary obligation, we will not endorse use of the SoClean with a true ventilator.

      1. I love my SoClean! I was bad at cleaning it all the time. The SoClean is so easy and I have noticed that I don’t wake up sneezing and having a runny nose!
It is noisy so I run it while I’m at work! So glad I bought this product!

    1. Hello Gloria,

Happy to assist you. Its wonderful to hear your enthusiasm for SoClean. Please feel free to contact us directly with any additional questions: (866) 501-3705

      Thank you,
      Christine

    1. Good Day,

SoClean doesn't recommend putting nylon, memory foam, gel, or natural rubber into the machine. Please take a moment to review your manufacturers guideline around what your specific nasal pillows are made of.

Please feel free to contact us directly with any additional questions: (866) 501-3705

      Thank you,
      Christine

  25. I read that SoClean recommends removing the memory foam from the mask before putting it on the cleaner. This is not possible on my husbands mask. Does this mean he cannot use the SoClean ?

    1. Hello Lindy,

Yes, Memory Foam Cushion must be removed before putting the headgear into the SoClean. The Memory Foam cushion should be cleaned in accordance with manufacturers guidelines.

Please feel free to contact us directly with any additional questions: (866) 501-3705

  27. I work in a sleep lab & frequently have my patients ask about your product. My main question is: facial oils are left in the mask each night. Does this clean those off as well or does the mask need wiped down or something to remove these oils?

    1. Hello Natalie,

The SoClean will inhibit facial oil build-up, but it will not remove the oils. Although the SoClean will sanitize and kill any germs, bacteria or other pathogens on your mask, some inert residue can be left behind. You may need to wipe off your mask from time to time, or even use the pre-wash provided.

  28. Can a SoClean machine be shared by multiple CPAP user? Is it safe or is there a risk of getting another person's germs.

    1. Hi Rita,

Thank you for asking! We do not recommend sharing a SoClean.

The SoClean is designed to stay connected to one CPAP machine. You can clean two CPAP machines; however, you will need to disconnect and reconnect your CPAP equipment. This would be extremely cumbersome and not recommended.

      Thank you,

    1. Hi Jimmie,

It really is a personal decision; however, you can be assured that each time you run the SoClean, you are sanitizing the water in the humidifier.

Thank you for your feedback. We are thrilled to hear you're enjoying the SoClean machine.

      All my best,
      Christine Pefine

    1. Hello Robb,

Please make sure your CPAP is turned off although you should not have to disconnect anything – that is the wonderful thing about the SoClean. Once you have it set up, you can leave it until you have to replace your CPAP hose. In some cases when used with a heated hose adapter, you may have to disconnect the water chamber to fill with water.

      Thank you,
      Christine Pefine

  31. Activated Oxygen is Ozone. How safe is and how much is the exposure to Ozone after the machine is done cleaning the CPAP and tubing?
Is there any additive effect every time the machine is used and how much are pets and other individuals exposed to Ozone gas?

    1. Hi Bertha,

Activated oxygen, also called ozone or O3 occurs in nature. It is produced and used commercially in applications for sanitizing produce, waste and drinking water. The SoClean is designed to keep the activated oxygen enclosed in your CPAP equipment and the secure chamber. When the sanitizing process is complete, the ozone turns back into regular oxygen. By the time you open the chamber it will have decreased to 0 ppm.

  32. I have been using the SoClean two for 8 months now. Overall, I use it everyday. The smell people complain about is how it sterilizes the mask - and tubing - and water tank. So? When I put the mask on, I purposely let it leak for 3-5 seconds. Problem solved.
