When I worked in a hosp based lab we also had a terrible attrition rate.
Since opening up a free standing lab – we have the pt come in at least a week before their test for a screening/nickel tour/lower the anxiety levels/check em for special needs etc etc and now we have virtually no ‘no shows’. We keep that daytime visit very low key and can ‘customize’ it to fit each pt. Some are just fine once they walk in and see nice rooms/quilts/decor. Others have more fears about the actual process and we’ll show them what will be used and how easy it is to get up for the restroom etc The rare one will then have a chance to say ‘no thanks’ and we have time to fill the slot.
We also call a day ahead of the test to confirm/remind them.
So far – so good 😉
