I don’t think its the AASM thats the root of the problem… and I’m happy the optional deffinition is getting recognition
I just wish…given all the years these new rules were in the making…
that the aasm had approached Medicare first for recognition of the new definition.
I’ve checked with several major carriers and their reimbursement policy is exactly like Medicare. So, we have to use the same old rule.
Besides, who makes the decision which scoring rule will be used per test –
the night tech so they can convert to nPAP or the scoring tech…messy 😕
Personally – I think there should be one definition, a combo of the 2 – but not instituted until Medicare recognizes it. As of now – medicare doesn’t seem to even know the rule has been changed and if they did – it can’t be voted on until 2009. More messy…
