My thoughts: I like how the apnea and hypopnea classification simplify the scoring of events. This will probably decrease false positives.
Only one definition can be used on each test…only the recommended (and current) definition is recognized by Medicare, BCBS (and others) to qualify for nPAP coverage.
RIP systems and ptaf are required to even score hypops. Only apneas may be scored using therms. So, it’ll be a cannula and a therm on the pt.
The rules go into effect July 2008 for all accredited labs. BRPT will begin including the new rules in testing then too.
