I manage a 4 bed hospital based lab that runs 5 nights a week. The techs work rotating 12 hour night shifts and 8 hour day shifts. This enables them to remain proficient in both acquisition and scoring. Two techs work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights and alternating Friday days for two weeks. The other two techs work Tuesday and Wednesday days and Thursday and Friday nights for two weeks. Then they rotate. This gives each tech an occasional 5 day weekend which they love. I have another tech who works strictly days. We score the studies in the morning after the patients leave, the doc reads them between 11:30 and 1:00, we do the dictation while he’s still here and the referring docs have the reports by 2:00 in the afternoon. The other dayshift tech and I do the scheduling, marketing and education as well as score.
